FOX is on a bit of a run lately with their X-Men universe, as Logan is still doing well in theaters and successfully serves a wonderful closing chapter to Wolverine’s story in the films. Coupled with their well received Legion on television and Deadpool’s immense success, it looks like FOX is learning how to make the most of their properties. One of those includes the much delayed Gambit, but a new fan trailer gives a glimpse of what that could look like.

The fan trailer was created by Movie Craft, and features predominantly footage of Taylor Kitch’s take on the character from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. While the film as a whole is not favored, Kitch’s version of the cunning Cajun wasn’t bad, and coupled with some spliced in footage from other places makes the project look like it could have some legs. Despite the delays, Gambit still has a 3.41 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings.
You can view the fan trailer in the video above, and for more of Movie Craft’s work, you can head to their Youtube page. As for the new film, Channing Tatum is attached to the lead role, and recently X-Men producer Simon Kinberg had this to say about the project.
“It’s in active development,” Kinberg said. “It’s a movie that we hope will be ready to go by the end of this year and shoot next year. We have two or three X-Men related movies this year so it can wait for a moment. The process has been that Channing [Tatum] is as determined about getting the character right as Ryan Reynolds was about Deadpool and Hugh [Jackman] was about this Logan movie. We know that when we get those right, the movie succeeds so we want to make sure we get Gambit right because we want him to be the beginning of a whole new franchise.”
As long as someone promises there won’t be a scene involving Wolverine slicing up a ladder, it sounds like a plan. You can view the synopsis for FOX’s most recent hit Logan below.
Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan’s vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn’t seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn’t over yet.
Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
Logan is now playing in theaters, while Gambit still has a release date of December 31 of 2017, though that is likely going to change. Deadpool 2 is slated for March 2, 2018, with the New Mutants project coming up next on June 29, 2018. An Untitled X-Men project is also currently dated for July 13, 2018.
