After wowing audiences with concept art at this month’s San Diego Comic-Con, fan everywhere are eagerly anticipating updates about the upcoming Captain Marvel film. But the star of the Marvel Studios picture – Brie Larson – appears to be keeping pretty coy.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote her film The Glass Castle, Larson gave a fairly vague statement of the status of her superhero debut as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, which is set to premiere in 2019.
“I may be getting ready, I may not be getting ready!” Larson revealed. “Anything I say I feel is hyper analyzed.”
Captain Marvel is set to break much of the Marvel Studios status quo – as it is the first film of the company’s led by a woman, will be set in the 1990s, and will feature the debut of the villainous Skrulls. But for Larson, the most daunting task going into shooting will be bringing the beloved title character to life.
“I mean, I feel pressure in that it’s a character that people love and are inspired by,” Larson explained, “and I see that, and so I want to do right by that. And I want people to feel like their character is honored.”
Larson’s costar in the picture will be Samuel L. Jackson, reprising his Marvel Cinematic Universe character Nick Fury. While on a press junket for The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Jackson revealed to ET the element of the film’s production that he is the most excited about.
“Hanging out with Brie.” Jackson explained. “Brie’s like, awesome. Brie’s my girl.”
But according to his The Hitman’s Bodyguard co-star Ryan Reynolds, Jackson has another reason to be excited for the production.
“He’s looking forward to depth perception.” Reynolds joked, referencing the fact that Nick Fury will have the use of both of his eyes in the film.
Larson will headline Captain Marvel in 2019, with Jackson co-starring. Marvel recently brought on directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, responsible for Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind. Now that directors are in place and the lead star is already hitting the ground running, more casting news should soon follow.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming are both in theaters now, and will be followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
