Warner Bros. live-action adaptation of Titans gained another member today with a key role from the DC Comics classic being cast.

Fan-favorite character Starfire will be played by Anna Diop on the digital series, joining Teagan Croft who will be playing Raven, according to Deadline. Diop previously played Nicole Carter on 24: Legacy from Fox.
Titans, from producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Sarah Schecter, and Geoff Johns, is being made under the Warner Bros. TV banner. The show will be part of the initial slate of programming for WB’s new DC Comics-branded digital service, alongside the revival of Young Justice.
The show will feature young soon-to-be superheroes brought together from various corners of the DC Universe, eventually forming a team and a family. Titans will feature Dick Grayson as the leader who will bring the characters together.
Starfire, real name Koriand’r, is a princess from the planet Tamaran. Though she was in line to rule her planet, betrayal by her older sister forced her to flee to planet Earth where she met Robin and formed the Teen Titans.
Though Robin would go on to become Nightwing and lead the Titans, it’s unclear just how the live-action version will adapt this storyline. They could have already been a team prior to the show starting, with Nightwing coming to reunite them. But with the age of Raven’s actor Croft, it seems more likely that this will be the first formation of the heroes.
Deadline describes Starfire as “an alien princess from a warrior planet who seeks asylum on Earth. A no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners stranger on our world, she has the ability to shoot energy bolts and fly. Searching for her place on Earth, she’ll come into contact with the Titans.”
Titans is set to debut on the new DC streaming service in 2018. Here’s the official description:
Titans follows a group of young soon-to-be superheroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In the action-adventure series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes that includes Starfire, Raven and others.
