Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 wrapped up Tuesday evening with an epic two-hour finale that provided conclusions for all of Season 2's major story arcs while already planting seeds for the season to come.

With so many unanswered questions, we turned to executive producer Jeff Bell for some answers. Bell took the time to speak to ComicBook.com about the most shocking and interesting moments in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Season 2 finale.

Check out our interview below. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return to ABC this fall.

We've been told that the Kree artifact was designed to kill the Inhumans. Does the artifact attacking Simmons suggest Simmons may be an Inhuman "descendent?"

I suppose you could read it that way. You could also go…well there's a bunch of things. A., is the thing that Jiaying said true? Is what she said true? And second, what is that thing, and was that about Simmons? Was she in the wrong place at the wrong time, or is there something specifically about her? It think those are all valid things to think about, as to how to move forward. But I promise you that we'll be coming back next season. Questions will be answered.

Wouldn't that suck if, next year, nobody talks about Simmons? There's no rock, we just…

She just kind of goes upstairs and nobody ever sees her again.

Nobody ever sees her gain. "Well, I guess Simmons left. That's too bad, I missed her."

If, for now, we can at least assume that the artifact is actually of Kree origin, there are a few characters in the Marvel Comics universe who gain powers through Kree technology. Captain Marvel is the most prominent, and while Simmons obviously isn't Carol Danvers, one of her villains, Doctor Minerva, gains her powers the same way. Could there possibly be a connection between this Kree artifact and Captain Marvel and Doctor Minerva's shared history?

Without overreaching, I would say that we're operating within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are Kree, there are Asgardians, and Chitauri. There's only a handful of alien worlds that exist there, and only a few that we even, as people on the ground, know about.

For us, the fact that it was Kree is simply because the Inhumans are tied to the Kree. The Inhumans were birthed out of that world, and, as we've learned, a lot of bad things can happen around things that are Kree. And also cool things, like Skye getting her powers. It does allow us to tell fantastical tales that we can sort of ground in our own Marvel science of it being alien versus magical.

Skye gets a new project from Coulson, which involves her recruiting powered people for a new team. They both agree that these new team members should be kept "anonymous." Sounds she'll be gathering up a secret group of newly powered individuals…perhaps a group of Secret Warriors, if you will? Is this possible the birth of the Cinematic Universe version of that team?

Well, I can't speak to Marvel's cinematic universe, but the fact that we have a team leader whose real name is Daisy Johnson talking to Coulson about a secret, anonymous group of powered people certainly is a tip of the hat to Secret Warriors. We're real big fans of those, and there are other little references to it that we've had over the course of the past couple of years. I'm not promising that we're going to go and jump in and do all of that, jump into those stories, but it's a nod to that, a reference to that. We'll see what shakes out.

Will Skye's new team consist primarily, or entirely, of Inhumans, perhaps new Inhumans triggered by the terrigen crystals that got left at the bottom of the ocean, or will perhaps see some characters with powers that come from different origins?

I would say there's no reason to limit it. Right now, the whole team is her, and there aren't that many powered people out in the universe. We met a bunch of Inhumans this year, and before that there's a few, but they mostly turned out to be psychotic, like Donnie Gill or Creel. But I don't think we should ever limit ourselves to saying, "It's only this flavor of gum" when all flavors of gum are delicious. In a bad metaphor kind of way [laughs]. Feel free to make that better.
