Oscar Isaac Reveals Long-Held Apocalypse Fandom, Teases Last Battle

While the fanboy community debates the look of the titular villain of X-Men: Apocalypse, Oscar Isaac, who plays the character, told EW that the look went through several tweaks.

"We had to do some adjustments here and there and be like, all right, maybe this is too alien. He also is someone who people would want to follow and not just be terrified of," the actor explained. Isaac clearly knows where the character comes from, though. "Making sure that there's some great elements from the comic but also making our own thing as well" is important, he said. "In the comic, he generally is like 12 feet, 600 pounds."

He should know - as a child, he collected and read Apocalypse's original appearances.

"I grew up reading the comics, and I actually collected X-Factor when i was younger, when Apocalypse first showed up. I was particularly freaked out with like the second coming and the end of the world, the apocalypse, so when there was a character that embodied that; and even from Sunday school, I remember the four horsemen and all that kind of imagery," he told the magazine during a set visit.

As for how his character will show that scary imagery? Isaac teased that his Apocalypse will get down and dirty, and not just rely on his ability to control other mutants. "That last battle is going to be pretty insane. I mean, it's like freaking Apocalypse fighting all of the X-Men. It's pretty cool."

Oscar Isaac, also starring in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, plays the first mutant in X-Men: Apocalypse, debuting May 27, 2016.
