It’s a surreal thing to say: the next chapter of Attack on Titan will not be out before its anime returns. After years of waiting, fans of Hajime Isayama’s thrilling shonen series are getting to continue their journey with the Survey Corps. At the start of April, Attack on Titan is slated to air the first episode of its second season, and Wit Studios is already gearing up for the premiere.

In recent weeks, the crew of Attack on Titan have been featured in various interviews to honor season two’s impending release. Chief director Tetsuro Araki was the first to talk about the anime’s return, and now director Masashi Koizuka is opening up about Attack on Titan‘s upcoming highlights.
When Koizuka was asked about the kind of highlights fans should expect in season two, the director had a hard time choosing.
“I basically think all of it is one big highlight. But there was a three- to four-year gap in the production process. During that time, work was still getting done on the scripts and stuff, but it’s not like we kept animating the series and beyond,” he said.
“Meanwhile, the staff have polished their skills, and they’re now capable of expressing themselves at a higher level. Whatever I picture as the finished visuals, the staff put out stuff that is far more creative.”
Later, when Koizuka was asked about specific character highlights, the director had an easier time landing on an answer. “For individual character that get the spotlight, I think Krista and Ymir really shine in Season 2. The’ve been in the show since Season 1, but they get a lot more attention now and they’re in the eye of the storm,” Koizuka explained.
“Of course, it’s not just Krista and Ymir. Season 1 focused mainly on Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and the 104th. But the other members of the corps who didn’t get much of the spotlight, get a lot of attention in Season 2.”
