Jason Douglas understandably has an affinity for Beerus, but surprisingly he is not Douglas’ pick for Dragon Ball’s most authentic character.

Being that Douglas voices Beerus on Dragon Ball Super, it might surprise you that he went a different route, that being the always arrogant Vegeta. He explained his reasoning to ComicBook.com at New York Comic Con, and he just might win you over to his side.
“The one that I identify with the most I think it is Vegeta,” Douglas said. “I love that character. He’s just, he is one of the most authentic characters in the show. I don’t know if anyone else feels that way, but like for me when I watch the show he’s my way in. You know when everybody watches a show and identifies with the everyman or the one that you just identify with. I’m just watching Vegeta and I’m like “yeah, I get that.” I totally understand his motivation for everything, and sometimes I want him to like chill out and not be so angry all the time, but I understand why he’s angry.”
Villains you empathize with are always the best villains, and Vegeta is no different. While Vegeta is a favorite of Douglas, he does not adopt his rather snarly demeanor with fans. It’s quite the opposite actually.
“For me the coolest thing about these is meeting the fans, because when you’re in that booth and you do the work you don’t actually get much applause or feedback or comments from the people that we’re making it for, so it’s a great chance to meet the people we are making this for,” Douglas said.
You can watch the entire interview with Douglas in the video above, and you can catch Beerus in action on Dragon Ball Super, which airs Sundays on the Fuji Television Network.
