It’s been about three months since Boruto: Naruto Next Generations got underway, and the series has become a fast favorite. The show acts as a distant sequel to Naruto: Shippuden and focuses on Konoha’s latest batch of up-and-coming ninjas. And, soon enough, the anime will adapt a long-awaited manga arc.

The latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump just confirmed Boruto will be adapting the Naruto Gaiden manga into a full anime arc. A key visual for the storyline was reveal, showing Sarada Uchiha standing beside her MIA father Sasuke. Boruto, Naruto, and ChoCho are also shown in the poster which can be seen below.
There’s no official date for the arc’s kick-off, but fans have been able to piece together its suspected release. Boruto will air a series of filler episodes between July 12 and August 2 to tide fans over. The anime’s 19th episode will debut on August 9, and its title “Uchiha Sarada” has fans thinking the episode will initiate Boruto‘s new arc.
If you are not familiar with the Naruto Gaiden arc, then you have a bit to catch up on. The story comes from a sequel mini-series that branched off from Akira Toriyama’s Naruto manga. The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring takes place after the Fourth Shinobi War and focuses on Sarada as she explores the mysteries surrounding her birth.
Frustrated by her father’s absentee status, Sarada grow suspicious of her heritage. The bright girl questions if Sakura is really her mother, and Sarada decides to track down Sasuke to question him about her birth. However, things become infinitely more complicated when Sarada learns a strange Sharingan user is hunting her down, and the girl is dragged into a horrifying scientific discovery.
