The summer of 2025 has been incredibly fruitful for anime, especially for the giant streaming platform Crunchyroll. The platform delivered a masterpiece with Takopi’s Original Sin, featuring some of the darkest themes seen in recent years. While this anime has been the highlight of the season, other standouts include the return of Dandadan and Kaiju No. 8 with their second seasons. On the romantic side, My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 has easily been the standout. Adding to the mix, this summer also saw the return of Crunchyrollโs best sci-fi anime, Dr. Stone, which first aired over six years ago.

Dr. Stone returned this season with its finale, the fourth seasonโs second cour, consisting of 12 episodes. The final season, Science Future, is divided into three parts. The first part aired earlier this year in winter, and the second part just concluded with the end of the summer season. As fans awaited news of the final cour, the official Dr. Stone TV anime X account released a key visual confirming its release for 2026 after the last episode of part two aired. While no exact release date has been announced yet, the final part is expected sooner than anticipated.
Crunchyroll’s Best Sci-Fi Anime Ends Next Year
The upcoming final part of Dr. Stone, scheduled for next year, will pick up with Senku and the Kingdom of Scienceโs journey to the moon, accompanied by Dr. Xeno, to confront the Why Man and learn why they are intent on destroying humanity on Earth. While the final episode of the second part showed Senku and the Kingdom of Science starting from scratch, the foundation has already been laid, and everything will progress quickly in the final installment. This last part will adapt the remaining 34 chapters of the manga. Considering the pacing and how the anime has previously adapted the story, the final part will likely consist of 12โ13 episodes at most.
If that holds true, the next season of the anime could arrive as soon as summer 2026. Since the release date for the second part of the final season was announced after the first concluded, but no exact date has yet been revealed for the third part, it suggests the gap will be longer than three months, likely between six and nine months. In the worst case, the finale, which could follow a single seasonal format, may air in fall 2026 at the latest. While many details about Dr. Stoneโs conclusion remain unknown, it is clear that Senku and the Kingdom of Scienceโs journey is nearing its end, with only one final adversary standing in the way of achieving their goal of reviving the worldโs entire population.
