Dragon Ball Super is well into the ‘Universal Survival’ arc, but fans are less-than-pleased with the story. Heroes like Goku have gathered to protect their homes from total annihilation, but there is one guy missing for some. After all, Yamcha was left out of the event, and fans were just informed of why.

Recently, a new magazine spread for Dragon Ball Super was published in Japan, and it contained some fun facts about the anime‘s new arc. Translators like Todd Blankenship took the time to get the information out to English-speaking fans, and one of them revealed why Yamcha was excluded from the Tournament.
Apparently, the snub falls onto Goku. The hero simply forgot to ask the hero.
“Yamcha: Goku never asked,” Blankenship shared with fans. The translator listed why other characters were left out of the arc. Videl was snubbed since Gohan might not approve, and Mr. Satan withdrew his own offer to compete.
Of course, fans will know why Majin Buu was kept from the tournament. The alien trained “too much” and fell into a deep sleep that could not be disturbed. Goten and Trunks did not get an invite because of their ages, and poor Yajirobe was nixed thanks to the event’s rule against weapons.
Even Arale is mentioned in the lengthy spread; The anime’s crew did not give a reason for her absence, but they did say it is a “shame” should wasn’t asked to join.
Yamcha may not have been asked to join the Tournament of Power, but that does not mean the character is getting a total write-off. Earlier this summer, the Japanese voice actor for Yamcha revealed he recorded a lot of lines for the character.
“While I can’t say any details yet, today I got worn-out talking a lot as Yamcha. I have to do my best tomorrow too,” Toshio Yoshita wrote on Twitter.
So, who knows? There’s always a chance Zen-Oh will need more entertainment, and Goku could offer Yamcha up to the gods as tribute. Fans would even be satisfied with a filler arc at this point if it meant Yamcha got a power-up or two!
