Corey Stoll, most recently of Netflix’s hit series House of Cards, will star in FX’s high-profile adaptation of Guillermo del Toro’s vampire novel trilogy The Strain from showrunner Carlton Cuse. The Strain is currently being adapted as a comic book series by Dark Horse, while Strain is working with Oni Press and Cullen Bunn to adapt The Sixth Gun as one of NBC’s highest-profile new pilots.According to Deadline, the del Toro-directed pilot of The Strain is being eyed as just a first step; FX president John Landgraf has indicated it is being eyed for a series order, with more scripts in development and a substantial commitment to the show’s effects budget. The pilot script comes from del Toro and Chuck Hogan, with whom he authored the books.”To me, having the right lead for The Strain series was perhaps the most important creative task,” said del Toro. “To be able to secure the perfect actor in Corey Stoll sets the project on the right track. To embody a character like Ephraim Goodweather – who transitions through every emotion and situation imaginable, and which anchors the narrative of the series – requires amazing talent and craft. Corey has both in spades as he has demonstrated it over and over again.”
