Marvel Studios is in talks with Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts to write the script for Doctor Strange, which Scott Derrickson (pictured above) recently confirmed he will direct.

Spaihts is currently writing Universal's reboot of The Mummy reboot as well as The Darkest Hour and The Black Hole.

Deadline, who broke the news, report that Marvel hopes to get a script and put this one in production on a fast track (presumably without unnecessary frustration, since the Ant-Man and Daredevil defections happening in the same weekend put the usually drama-free studio back on its heels for a bit).

Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jared Leto are the latest round of actors rumored for the role, which was at one point widely believed to be Jon Hamm's for the taking. The first draft of the Doctor Strange script was penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer -- whose script was reportedly discarded so that a new writer could start from scratch, before Derrickson was named and, with him, word came down from Marvel that no such thing had happened to the script. As far as anyone knows, Spaihts would be the first serious rewrite of the script.
