In an interview with Empire Magazine, James Gunn has revealed some spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Though inconclusive, they involve Star-Lord's father and Thanos' role in the sequel.

Spoilers follow.

In the interview, Gunn discussed Star-Lord's father, saying it's not the obvious answer.

"It's definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I'll say that much," Gunn said.

So we still don't know who Peter Quill's father is, but we definitely know who he's not. As we covered previously, Quill's father in the comics is J'Son of Spartax, the ruler of the Spartoi Empire. Apparently, that will not be the case for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the character.

As for the Mad Titan, Thanos, Gunn says they'll use him as needed, but he won't be the primary focus or antagonist of the sequel.

"He will show up [in the sequel] if he helps our story and he will not show up at all if not. Thanos is not the most important thing in Guardians 2, that's for damn sure. There's the Guardians themselves and other threats the Guardians are going to be facing that are not Thanos."

Guardians of the Galaxy is now playing in theaters.
