Given that Disney owns both Marvel and ABC, it’s almost virtually assured that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will make the ABC Fall schedule. After all, Joss Whedon is a very important individual to Disney since he’s directing the Avengers sequel, so it’s unlikely ABC would want to upset him by not picking up his TV series.Plus, more importantly, given the success of the Avengers, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would have a built-in audience and likely be a big hit for ABC. What ABC executive wants to be the guy who passes on a project from a guy whose last movie made $1.5 billion? But what happens if by some slim chance, ABC does decide to pass on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In an interview with Crave Online, Clark Gregg said, “I don’t know. They haven’t told me. Honestly, they haven’t told me the answer yet. I certainly would be sad if it didn’t because I have a feeling it would mean that Coulson didn’t live anymore. But yeah, I think we made a good pilot. Joss knows what he’s doing, and other writers, his brother Jed and Jed’s wife Maurissa are amazing. I think we’ve got a shot.”So if there is no Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. then Agent Coulson likely stays dead. If that happens ABC might be the first ever network to be the subject of a letter writing campaign to save a show that never even aired. If Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does make it to series as expected, then Clark Gregg thinks Agent Coulson will be a regular and be in plenty of action scenes.
