Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Apocalypse) is pulling double duty in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (2012) sequel/Alien (1979) prequel, Alien: Covenant. He’s reprising the role of David, the arrogant and blond-haired — modeled after T. E. Lawrence (a.k.a. “Lawrence of Arabia”) — synthetic. He’s also playing Walter, a newer and more humane model of David.

With the first trailer coming tomorrow, 20th Century Fox has released what appears to be the very first image of Fassbender as Walter. He is shown — with short, brown hair and dressed in all white — sitting on a piano bench, next to the keyboard instrument, and peering straight at the camera.

Speaking with Coming Soon, Fassbender shared details about Walter. “I think Walter’s a real different kettle of fish,” he said. “David was definitely a work-in-progress, somewhat of a prototype I suppose. The elements of him that were the human elements I think people found a little disturbing, so Walter’s more of a straightforward robot. Pretty logical, much more of a servant without the ego.”

Director Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

The cast features Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, and Benjamin Rigby.
