It’s not entirely uncommon for toys–which need to be produced and ready to hit the shelves before the movie can be in theaters–to give away plot points from major motion pictures, even ones that have successfully kept most of their story information secret. It appears as though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may be no different, as Diamond Comics Distributors today released information on a batch of MiniMates figurines that may explain how some “bro” from the Russian mob became the robo-nightmare version of The Rhino seen in the May sequel. How so? Well, while other characters find themselves paired up with pretty logical companion pieces–Spider-Man and Rhino, Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy–mobster Aleksei Sytsevich finds himself packaged with…Alistair Smythe?Yeah, that guy. The inventor of the Spider Slayer robots, and a prime candidate to have provided the armor even before the toys seem to have given up the game. You can check out the official solicitation text for the toys below, which will be available for pre-order in the upcoming issue of Previews. No photos of the figurines are available yet–possibly because of spoilers, or else just becuase designs aren’t yet finalized.“Marvel Minimates Series 56: Amazing Spider-Man 2 Asst. The most eagerly anticipated sequel of the year is getting a sequel set of Minimates! This assortment will include four two-packs, including Battle-Damaged Spider-Man with Electro, Spider-Man with Norman Osborn, Graduation Peter with Gwen Stacy and a rare, one-per-case set featuring Alistair Smythe with Aleksei Sytsevich!
