In an interview with MTV’s Splash Page, Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb discussed his thinking behind making The Lizard his villain of choice, as well as implying that the Lizard’s classic white lab coat from the comics may not be completely absent from the film.Shots of The Lizard culled from promotional images, toys and film trailers have all featured a villain who’s completely eschewed clothing in favor of a more reptilian appearance, but Webb told MTV that fans “won’t be disappointed” regarding the lab coat. He stopped short of actually confirming that it will make an appearance, but that feels like a confirmation to us.He also explained the decision to make The Lizard the first film’s central villain, saying that it’s tied thematically with the way Peter’s character is portrayed in the script. At the beginning of the movie, Peter Parker has a missing piece: his parents,” he’s quoted as saying. “It’s this thing that’s left him. His desire to find that motivates him and drives him and sets him on his path. For the Lizard, Doctor Connors has a missing arm, which sets him on his path. There’s this symmetrical theme in Curt Connors being the literal embodiment of the movie’s theme: we all have a missing piece. How we look to fill that void is how we define ourselves. It made sense. After I figured that out, it was a logical choice.”
