Reed had agreed to direct The Fifth Beatle, based on the script and graphic novel from Vivek Tiwary.

The Eisner-nominated project from Dark Horse Comics — the result of a decade of work on the part of Tiwary and significant time on the part of his art team as well — hasn’t yet started production as a film, and ComicBook.com asked Tiwary whether Marvel’s gain was his loss.

“No, but it’s an astute thing that you noticed,” Tiwary said. “Our director is doing Ant-Man and that’s an exciting thing for us! With The Fifth Beatle, we are casting [Beatles manager Brian Epstein] right now. As you know, it’s been a decade that we’ve been working on it. We’re doing it slowly and carefully. Ant-Man is scheduled to shoot I think in 7 weeks. There’s no way The Fifth Beatle would film this year, so there’s no way the two will conflict. If anything, it’s great to say that Peyton is doing a huge superhero movie and we’re going to be his first movie after that. Putting my producer hat on for a minute, Peyton’s value as a director has risen considerably.”

Tiwary recently wrote an eight-page story to be featured in Valiant Entertainment’s Harbinger #25, due in stores next month. Be on the look out for our full interview with Tiwary, as well as a preview of the issue, coming soon.
