A brief Twitter exchange that took place yesterday between the official Twitter accounts for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers has brought together football fans with fans of George Lucas’s sci-fi classic Star Wars and is starting to pick up steam online.The Cardinals, who need the New Orleans Saints to lose today in order to make the playoffs, appealed to the underdog Buccaneers to “Use the Force” to overtake the favored Saints–and the Bucs tweeted back, in similarly Skywalker fashion.Seattle is the #1 seed in the NFC, but if they lose to the Rams today, and the 49ers win their game, then the 49ers can take that spot from them, Carolina is the 2 seed, but if Seattle loses they would take the 1, if Carolina loses nothing happens. Eagles and Cowboys play tonight for the 3 seed, Bears and Packers in an hour for the 4 seed. Wildcards are, currently, 49ers and Saints, but if the Saints lose and the Cardinals win, then the Cardinals are in and the Saints are out.The Buccaneers’ season is already over; the only thing to play for is to ruin the Saints’ playoff chances–but The Saints are a 12.5-point home favorites.You can check out the tweets embedded below (and cut/pasted together inline above).
