After a decade of hard work, it looks like Marvel Studios will finally push its cinematic universe to a climax at long last. The studios’ numerous titles have all been leading up to Avengers: Infinity War, the first half of an epic showdown featuring the Mad Titan. With Thanos looking to complete the Infinity Gauntlet, Earth’s mightiest heroes will be asked to team up with the likes of Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy to beat the baddie. And, if recent rumors are true, then another familiar face will join Iron Man’s super squad.

Fans have not seen much of Nick Fury as of late, but that could all change soon enough. The shadowy spy made his last appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, after the former SHIELD director helped out the Avengers, no one has heard from him sense. However, a new report by Chronicle Live in the UK says the surly figure will don his black trench coat once again in Avengers: Infinity War.

The site recently published a piece about the film’s shooting abroad. Avengers: Infinity War is currently filming in Scotland, and shooting is slated to move to Durham soon after an extended stay in Edinburgh. Chronicle Live says an insider source has told the publication both Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson are expected to land in Scotland to film sometime this week.

Of course, there is no official confirmation on whether the rumor is true. Still, fans seem hopeful about the character’s return. Nick Fury played an integral part in bringing together the Avengers, and he would seem like the kind of man with intel of an intergalactic tyrant like Thanos. For now, fans are keeping their eyes open for set photos featuring Jackson as the film heads to Durham Cathedral for filming.

In the past, Jackson has addressed whether he would be returning to the blockbuster. The actor did an interview with MTV where he played coy about the possibility when asked if he was excited to play Nick Fury once more.

“Who says I am?” the actor asked. “I don’t know. I’m asking you; I’m hoping you know maybe something I don’t know. Am I in that movie?”

When Jackson learned IMDB was the site which attached him to the film, the actor then laugh. “IMDB says I am? You believe them? No, don’t believe IMDB,” he said. “I haven’t heard from them. I don’t know what’s going on yet.”

This would not be the first time actors within the Marvel Cinematic Universe tried to play off a role in the franchise. Marvel Studios is known for its secrecy, and spoilers are being kept locked tight for Avengers: Infinity War. The studio wants to keep its biggest casting notes tucked away until Marvel can release them officially. So, unless a lucky fan manages to spot Jackson abroad, audiences will have to keep this report classified as a rumor.

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.
