DC Comics have filed a trademark for the long-running Batman title Shadow of the Bat, which concluded publication in 2000.The original title ran for more than 100 issues, mostly written by Alan Grant and featuring art by Norm Breyfogle. You can see the filming with the US Patent and Trademark Office here.Specifically, the trademark was filed for “G & S: DOWNLOADABLE PUBLICATIONS IN THE NATURE OF BOOKS FEATURING CHARACTERS FROM ANIMATED, ACTION ADVENTURE, COMEDY AND/OR DRAMA FEATURES, COMIC BOOKS, GRAPHIC NOVELS, MAGAZINES FEATURING CHARACTERS FROM ANIMATED, ACTION ADVENTURE, COMEDY AND/OR DRAMA FEATURES.”DC has to use the trademark in order to keep it “alive.”The digital-first anthology series Legends of the Dark Knight wrapped in 2013 after 79 weekly issues. It seems likely Shadow of the Bat could be used as a substitution for that book in DC’s digital-first lineup.Otherwise, we’ve been saying that Man of Steel: Shadow of the Bat would be a great title for Batman vs. Superman. Is it too much to ask that they’re just getting the brand warmed up…?
