The Black Mass footage started around a dinner table. Johnny Depp sits as Whitey Bulger, with his hair slicked back & lightened and eyes completely blue. Across from him – David Harbour as John Morris. Depp puts on an absolutely captivating performance in the scene.
Whitey asks John what the trick is to the food their eating. John responds by saying, “It’s a family secret.” Whitey tries a couple more times to get John to spill the family secret as if he were really enjoying the food, but really he is testing him.
After a few probes, John tells Whitey, the secret ingredients are “ground garlic and soy.” Whitey is displeased. He accuses John of sharing a family secret. If John will share family secrets so easily, how should Whitey trust him?
The footage cuts to various scenes around Boston, most of which involved cold blooded violence. More than once Whitey Bulger guns people down in the streets. A riot breaks out outside of a bus. Chaos builds tension.
Back at the table, John tells Whitey he was, “Just saying.” Whitey tells a petrified John, “Just sayin’ can get you buried real quick.” After an intense, terrifying moment, Whitey busts out laughing.
Black Mass hits theaters September 18, 2015.
