With Pokemon in the news so often thanks to Pokemon Go and the upcoming Pokemon games, we here at WWG sometimes spend our time debating what sort of Pokemon celebrities would have if they were trainers. Would Robert Downey Jr. prefer Steel type Pokemon? What Eeveelution would Rhianna choose? Is there any Pokemon tough enough to hang with Brock Lesnar?

Well, our newest feature Celebrity PokePals will try to answer all those questions and more. We’ll pick out a celebrity each week and pick out which Pokemon would have on his or her battling team.
First up is Miley Cyrus, the child actress turned pop star turned coach on NBC’s The Voice. Miley recently made headlines when she outed her fiancee Liam Hemsworth as an avid Pokemon Go enthusiast, although she claimed she doesn’t play the game.
Here’s the Pokemon team we feel would be the best fit for Miley Cyrus. Agree? Disagree? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
Golem
There aren’t any “Wrecking Ball” Pokemon, but any Pokemon team that involves Miley Cyrus needs to involveย Golem, the final evolution of Geodude. Withย moves like Steamroller and Bulldoze at Golem’s disposal, Miley would have a Pokemon capable of breaking down any walls she came across…and also able to flatten anyone stupid enough to break her heart.
Golem’sย real strength lies with defense, as its rock hard shell and “Sturdy” ability gives it enough strength to stop even the hardest attack. As a child actress turned frequent subject of the paparazzi, we imagine that Miley would appreciate Golem’s ability to survive under scrutiny.
Miley would probably round out Golem’s attack set with Explosion, an extremely powerful attack that would cause Golem to faint, but would also take out her opponent.ย Think of it as Miley’s final act of rebellion.ย
Lickitung
There’s more than a few Internet memes out there that compare Miley Cyrus to Lickitung due to her propensity for sticking out her tongue in photos. That’s not exactly the most flattering of comparisons, but she’d probably be the type to embrace Lickitung and turn it into a kickass brawler.ย
Lickitung has one of two abilities: Own Tempo (which prevents confusion) or Oblivious (which prevents taunts and infatuations). Of the two, we’re guessing that Miley’s Lickitung has Own Tempo. Not only does it match up with Miley’s singing career, but Miley’s storiedย love life shows that she’s far fromย immune to crushes.
In terms of Lickitung’s attack set, we’d go with Lick, Supersonic, Body Slam, and Protect. Protect continues the trend of giving Miley’s Pokemon some extra protection, Body Slam gives Lickitungย a big physical attack, Supersonic will confuse Lickitung’s opponents, and Lick…well, that doesn’t need much explanation.ย
Miltank
There are few Pokemon who “can’t stop” like Miltank and herย infuriating Rollout attack.ย Pokemon Goldย andย Silverย players will remember Miltank as the bane of Goldenrod Gym, crushing many a player during their quest to earn the Plain Badge. Frustrating? Unstoppable?ย Sounds like Miley to me.
Miltank is a bit of an unconventional sweeper, butย Rolloutย can take out just about any Pokemon once it picks up steam. We’d give Miltank Defense Curl, as it doubles Rollout’s attack power and gives Miltank an extra boost.
We’d also recommendย Body Slam, a powerful attack that doesn’t require a 5 turn commitment, and Milk Drink, Miltank’s signature move and a way to recover from any damage Miltank while it’s rolling through Pokemon.
Mightyena
Inย Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire,ย players met a Delinquent named Miley during their travels through the Hoenn region. Many thoughtย that “Delinquent Miley” was a tongue in cheek reference to Miley Cyrus and her often wild headline making antics.ย
“Delinquent” Miley’s signature Pokemon was aย Mightyena, a Dark type Dog Pokemon. In the Pokemon world, Mightyena is a hard to train Pokemon, as it only will listen to particularly skilled and experienced trainers. However, once you gain Mightyena’s respect, it’ll become a devoted and loyal partner.
Mightyena doesn’t have the strongest stats, but it has access to a couple of moves that fits Miley’s personality and probable battling style. Sucker Punch gives Mightyena a priority move (provided that their opponent is also set to attack), while Snarl dishes out damage and lowers an opponent’s special attack. We’d also give Mightyena Scary Face and Taunt, two moves that don’t deal any damage, but will knock an opponent off their game.ย
Miley’s Mightyena works best as a late game Pokemon, jumping into battle to finish off any Pokemon that Golem and Miltank don’t finish off.ย
Swanna
Swannaย has two important rolesย on Miley’s team: it’s the primary counter to any Fighting Pokemon that Miley runs into and it also clears outย hazards like Toxic Spikes, Spikes, or Rock Stealth, which can devastate teams in a full Pokemon battle.
Defog is a must for hazard clearing purposes, as isย the powerful Flying attack Hurricane. We’d also give Swanna Roost to help keep its health up, and probably a secondary attack like Bubble Beam to give it some extra oompf against Fire, Rock, andย Ground types.ย ย
In addition to be a practical Pokemon for Miley’s team, Swanna also fits Miley’s personality and history. Like just about any kid growing up in the spotlight, Miley had a bit of a rough phase but she seems to be getting control of her life. Swanna started off as an ugly duckling (Ducklett) but transformed into…well, a swan. Maybe that’s a bit on the nose, but it’s still a solid metaphor for Miley and her career.
Snubbull
Maybe it’s the cute but scary face, or the fact that Miley has a thing for polka dots, but Snubbull just feels like a good fit for Miley’s team. Snubbull has a surprisingly deep moveset, making it a versatile Pokemon with multiple uses.ย
Because of Golem, Miltank, and to a lesser extent Mightyena, Snubbull doesn’t really need to be much of an attacker. We’d give it Play Rough, a damage dealing Fairy move to help clear out Fighting types (a major weakness for the rest of Miley’s team). We’d also load Snubbull up with moves like Lick and Thunder Wave that deal out status effects.
