While Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has been very involved in the movie, hyping it for months, Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicieza, who scripted his first appearance and has written the character off and on since, tends to be a bit more reserved. He’s seen the film and participated in a couple of fan events now, though, and offered up his take on the final movie.

“The Deadpool movie is funny and action-packed like you’d want, but also sweet, sad, romantic, and uplifting like I wanted it to be.

“It is a near-perfect translation of the character Rob and I created who has been continually improved upon by so many excellent writers and artists over 25 years of comics publishing,” the writer posted to facebook.

“Big thanks to Rob Liefeld and [director] Tim Miller for working very hard to ensure we received credit and Easter Eggs, too!” he said. Liefeld makes a cameo in the film, while Nicieza has a pair of streets named after him in it. Both got a mention in the credits, as well.

“Thanks to Tim Miller (again), [writers] Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, [star] Ryan Reynolds, and the entire cast for a truly fun and rewarding experience.”

Nicieza also enjoyed another cameo “of a character that warmed me to the marrow” (that’s a pun), but was most excited to see his name spelled correctly.

“And especially thanks for spelling my name right on the street sign,” he wrote. “The odds were against you on that one.”

Liefeld, meanwhile, has been very vocal about his love for the movie, and even thinks it might start a “new age of movies.”

Deadpool hits theaters February 12, 2016.
