The report, which suggests the merger has implications for film and television as well as the publishing side, characterized the new company as “the first mini-major comics publishing company of its size emphasizing creator-owned work since the establishment of Image in 1991.”
At that time, Image quickly shot to the #3 position in market share behind perennial industry leaders Marvel and DC.
The report says that the specifics of anything already in development prior to the merger will be worked out at a later date.
The new company will continue to focus on creator-owned comics, which is the bread and butter of both constituent companies which, for now at least, will retain some degree of publishing autonomy, per the Deadline report.
