Happy Holidays, Whovians! Today is the first day of December, and it looks like the BBC is feeling holly-jolly. The network has been busy promoting its upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special, and a few new updates on the episode were gifted to fans. A brand-new motion poster and synopsis for the Christmas special has been released.

BBC America’s Doctor Who Twitter recently debuted its motion poster for the annual event. The video features Peter Capadli’s Twelfth Doctor along with the special’s co-stars. Justin Chatwin will star in the special as a mysterious superhero while Charity Wakefield and Matt Lucas stand in as the Doctor’s temporary companions.

If you want to check out the new synopsis for the 2016 Christmas special, then you can read it below:

“This Christmas sees the Doctor join forces with a masked Superhero for an epic New York adventure. With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost. Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?

Peter Capaldi stars as the Doctor, Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids, Little Britain) as Nardole, Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black, Shameless) as Grant and Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall, The Player) as an investigative journalist.

The special is written by Steven Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Ed Bazalgette (Poldark).”

Not long ago, the BBC gave fans their first look at the episode with a special clip. The footage shows a hero known as “The Ghost” take on some baddies a la Superman. The airborne superhero was seen casually knocking on a skyscraper window before busting inside and saving the Doctor from an unsavory figure.

“Please understand it’s against my personal code to cause any lasting harm to any individual,” the hero says before bashing the unarmed villain onto the ground.

Earlier this year, the BBC released their first look at the mysterious superhero who’d feature in the Christmas special. Justin Chatwin will play the character, and his get-up looks rather impressive. His all-black uniform and face mask look nothing like the Doctor’s whimsical ensemble, but the two heroes will find some similarities once they get to know one another.

So, what do you think about the episode’s synopsis? Will any of you be tuning into the special? Let us know in the comments below!
