YouTuber Oliver Hollingdale of Sunnymeade Films has created something that thousands of Dredd fans have hoped to see for years: a teaser trailer for Netflix’s serialized follow-up.
Of course, it’s entirely fan-fiction. Netflix is not currently developing anything based on Dredd, and even star Karl Urban, who long teased new material being shopped around, seems to have largely gone quiet.

Still, these opening sequences are pretty great, if only for the moment that you sit back and think about what might have been:
Originally, filmmakers said that the movie, which cost around $50 million to make, would need to generate that much in the U.S. to be considered for a sequel. It did not, garnering only about $13 million in the U.S. and $35 million worldwide. What it has done, though, is go on to sell huge numbers of Blu-rays and DVDs, and become a bit of a social media phenomenon.
“I’m incredibly proud of that film and it means a lot to me,” Urban told a Star Trek convention in 2014. “And there are a lot of people working very, very hard to deliver a sequel because it is amazing how many people come up to me and say, ‘I really would like to see another installment of that film.’ I’m meeting with the filmmakers actually on this trip and there’s a lot of people trying to make it happen. If it does happen, it’s going to be phenomenal and if it’s just a one-off event, then so be it, but we’re trying.”
A fan-started petition for a sequel, which has since been officially adopted by 2000 AD, has more than 75,000 signatures at last count, and Dredd itself was named one of ComicBook.com’s ten best R-rated comic book movies of all time.
