Focus Tops Weak Box Office; Kingsman: The Secret Service Clings To Second

Analysts are blaming bad weather across the south and midwest for the box office numbers being down as much as 20% from a year ago. Despite the bad weather, Will Smith’s latest film Focus topped the Friday box office with $6.76M and is expected to finish the weekend with $20.2M, according to Deadline. The film received mixed reviews from critics and currently has a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences that went to go see it this weekend only gave it a ‘B’ CinemaScore.

Meanwhile, there is an interesting race for second place going on this weekend between three films: Kingsman: The Secret Service, Fifty Shades Of Grey and newcomer The Lazarus Effect. As of right now, all three are expected to finish up the weekend with $10M and change. Kingsman earned $3M on Friday, which is actually less than The Lazarus Effect‘s $3.9M and Fifty Shades Of Grey‘s $3.4M, but analysts believe it will perform better than the other two films today and Sunday.
