As artist Reilly Brown, a Marvel Comics artist (amongst other publishers) who is best known for his years of work with Deadpool (and Cable) put it, “life can give you some ups and downs,” but his week last week was a new level. Brown and his wife welcomed their first child on Sunday, with no idea that less than a week level they’d be in dire straights due to a fire in Hoboken, NJ.

The artist posted about his crazy week, which included an appearance on Comic Book Club in NYC to talk about Deadpool, seeing the film with a surprise cameo by a character he co-created (Bob), and a signing at a comic shop in Montclair, NJ. It then took a turn for the worse when a building fire started a few buildings down the street from their home, and spread from one to the next.
The fire did not directly burn their building, thanks to a firewall, but the smoke and water damage was extensive, and with a newborn, much of their possessions will have to be replaced, as the smoke in the clothes, books, and baby possessions could be damaging to their son.
Brown, then, has issued a plead, not for any kind of direct donation, but simply if you’re looking for some comic book art in your home, to hit him up. From Brown:
“I’ll humbly direct you toward my art dealer’s site, www.AnthonysComicBookArt.com/artistgalleryroom.asp?artistid=1172 โ a few extra sales there could go a long way. Also, I have a number of comic conventions and appearances coming up this year, and if you have a mind to get a commission from me, contact me through my website, www.ReillyBrownArt.com , with the name of the convention and the word “commission” in the subject line and I’ll put you on a reserved commission list. The money from those commissions will mean more to me now than they will at the time of the show.
Also, I started an online Gumroad store, where I’ll be selling my convention sketchbooks, SKETCHES: THE ART OF REILLY BROWN vol 1 and 2, as downloadable PDFs for whatever price you wish to pay. Even if it’s just a dollar, every little bit will help.
