Before Godzilla, there was Monsters, Gareth Edwards’ first film about building-sized beasts that trample everything in their path. It was made on a shoestring, with CG effects winningly conjured out of nowhere, but demonstrated Edwards’ way with human-scale storytelling and the integration of epic spectacle with something more thoughtful.
Not only did Edwards go onto something bigger, brasher and more action-packed when he took on Godzilla, it seems like his Monsters have scaled up in a very similar fashion. As this trailer for Tom Green-but-not-that-Tom Green’s sequel, Monsters: Dark Continent reveals, this time there’s a lot more in the way of soldiers, shooting, explosions and crashes.

Dark Continent has a UK release date of November 28th, while details of a US release are still pending.
