As a general rule of thumb, most video game adaptations of blockbuster movies are awful. More rushed cash-ins than works of interactive art, movie video-games usually choose the path of least resistance for the most generic experience possible. There’s a landfill of E.T. Atari cartridges to attest to that.

But this spring’s Furious 7 could disrupt that formula for mediocrity by handing its video game adaptation to the pros: Namely, the Forza racing series. Forza, a highly credible and acclaimed racing game franchise, is teaming up with what is ostensibly its Hollywood counterpart for “Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast And Furious.”

The downloadable game will let players wield cars and lead missions set in The Fast And The Furious universe . In the Turn 10 Studios-developed installment, players must scout and supply vehicles for Tej Parker, who will be voiced by his big screen actor Ludacris.

On Parker’s shopping list are a rogue’s gallery of the Furious franchises best racers, including a 1970 Dodge Charger, 1998 Toyota Supra, 1970 Plymouth Road Runner, 2012 Nissan GT-R, 1970 Plymouth Cuda, 2013 Jeep Wrangler, 2014 Maserati Ghibli S and 2015 Dodge Charger.

“We weren’t interested in doing yet another movie-based game,” Turn 10 Studio head Alan Hartman told The Associated Press. “That’s not what our franchise is about. When we started talking about this with Universal years ago, it was really about bringing both of our franchise’s strengths to the table. We’re building on top of everything we’ve done over the last decade.”

Hollywood’s top racing franchise and video game’s top racing franchise together at last? It’s a match made in heaven. Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious will hit the X-Box 360 and X-Box One on March 27 and will not require the main Forza Horizon 2 (hooray!). The game will be free to download and play until April 10, when it will then cost $10. It just might be enough to erase that Gameboy Advance version of 2 Fast 2 Furious from gamers’ minds.

Furious 7 opens on April 3.
