Guardians of the Galaxy is arguably one of Marvel Studios’ best efforts to date.

It’s been just over a year since Peter Quill, Rocket Raccoon, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, and Groot took audiences on Marvel’s first big screen cosmic adventure, and we have just under two years until the sequel arrives.
Even though director James Gunn announced that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will not be featured at Disney’s D23 Expo this weekend, we’re still looking forward to the sequel and thinking about what we want to see.
Let’s take a look at the top five notes that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 should hit.
Al Pacino
How about Al Pacino as Star-Lord’s dad? He would be an all-new, galactic Godfather.
Way back when the first Guardians of the Galaxy hype train was chugging, Al Pacino admitted that he would love to be involved with the franchise. We’re all for it. And though no casting has been announced, Pacino has definitely met with Marvel Studios.
We would love to Al Pacino take on a role in Guardians 2. Perhaps as J’Son of Spartax?
J’Son Of Spartax
Speaking of J’Son, Guardians director James Gunn has publicly said that Peter Quill’s father will not be the same character that he is in the comics. In the comics, Star-Lord’s dad is J’Son of Spartax. And that’s okay, but we still want to see J’Son.
J’Son becomes a real thorn in the Guardians’ side in the comics, trying to force Quill to join him, but also playing a part in trying to protect the Earth. The character would be a great addition to the Guardians line-up, and if cast correctly (when does Marvel ever miscast?) could pull audiences’ emotions in all sorts of directions. More importantly, his addition could build drama for future Guardians sequels and Avengers movies.
Galactic Council
J’Son of Spartax eventually joins the Galactic Council, comprised of several alien races, which rules the Earth as off-limits for extra-terrestrials.
Picture it: J’Son, after he has lost his empire, is going to be a bitter guy and not have the patience for the Guardians’ antics. If he and the Council rule the Earth off limits, and Quill and Co. end up going to Earth (even to protect it) in an Avengers team-up movie, the aftermath could be Guardians 3’s focus. Yes, we’re thinking that far ahead!
But, back on topic, the Galactic Council could not only provide future storylines for the Guardians, but introduce multiple alien races, such as the Shi’Ar. We know James Gunn loves Easter Eggs.
Nova
Nathan Fillion as Nova. Does anything else need to be said?
No. But we’ll elaborate, anyway.
Nova originally had a chance to join the Guardians of the Galaxy but was ultimately eliminated. Maybe we’ll get Richard Ryder in the sequel, and you never know, maybe he’ll be Peter Quill’s dad.
In the comics, Nova is a fan-favorite character. Richard Ryder traveled the cosmos primarily in the comics but ended up getting sucked into the Cancer-verse with Thanos and Star-Lord. Later, a new Nova was introduced as Sam Alexander, Richard Ryder’s son. Peter Quill seems like a plausible substitute-son for Sam, although the Jeph Loeb Nova run with Sam Alexander as the titular hero was a lot of fun.
It doesn’t have to be so complicated, though. If we get Nova at all, we’ll be happy.
Karaoke Battle
Karaoke Battle, bro. You and me.
Yeah, why not throw in a karaoke battle for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? The dance off between Star-Lord and Ronan was the epitome of Guardians of the Galaxy’s overall tone. Sure it was risky, but it paid-off in full. So, why not honor that dance off with an equally epic karaoke battle?
But, who would be the best candidates? Groot vs. Drax. Karaoke battle, bros.
If anyone can make it happen, it’s James Gunn.
