The episodes, which will debut in December, were written by comics writer Charlie Huston. Slade and Huston also will exec produce the first two episodes, Deadline reports.
Besides feature films, Slade has experience in TV as a director on NBC’s Hannibal and AMC’s Breaking Bad.
Powers is produced by Sony Pictures TV. Circle of Confusion, Bendis, Oeming and Michael Dinner also will executive produce with Huston and Remi Aubuchon (Falling Skies), along with Circle of Confusion’s David Engel, David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis. Huston and Aubuchon will serve as showrunners.
Powers follows two police officers in a world where costumed superheroes are fairly commonplace. In the comics, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim are assigned to protect humans like us and investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities. Whether that means investigating cases where “Powers” are the culprit, the target or both can vary from story to story.
The series has had a troubled road to the big screen, including a pilot shot for FX and screened at Comic Con International before being scrapped. Bendis and Oeming publish the most current incarnation of the title — Powers: Bureau, which sees the lead characters working with the FBI — through Marvel Comics’s creator-owned Icon imprint.
No casting has yet been announced. The previous iteration of the series starred Jason Patric, Lucy Punch and Charles S. Dutton.
