Born in Wisconsin, the actor was raised by parents Marie and Frank alongside his two sisters. As a teen, Ruffalo attended school in Wisconsin and Virginia before his family moved to Los Angeles. It was there that Ruffalo begin taking theater classes and found an interest in drama.

Ruffalo begin his professional acting career in the late-1990s where he nabbed minor roles in television series and indie projects. It wasn’t until he starred in This Is Our Youth that he began grabbing attention for his acting talent.

By the 2000s, Ruffalo was being cast in romantic comedies like 13 Going On 30 and Just Like Heaven before he took on gritter roles in films like Zodiac.

However, many fans will know the actor best for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ruffalo was cast as Bruce Banner/The Hulk back in 2012 and debuted the character in The Avengers. Since then, Ruffalo has reprised the heroic role several times and will do so again next year in Thor: Ragnarok.
