Despite what you may have read yesterday or even today on the Internet, Jason Momao has not been officially confirmed to play Aquaman in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. We’ve received numerous tips and emails today asking why we weren’t covering the big announcement, which is usually something we would be all over. The reason we didn’t cover it is because there wasn’t a big announcement.

As sometimes happens on the Internet, someone somewhere posted a link to a nearly two month oldย Variety story, which was reporting on a claim by HitFix that Jason Momoa had been cast as Aquaman. And in the way Internet news works nowadays, it spread like wildfire with numerous sites picking up the old story, as if it was something new.

To set the record straight, neither Warner Bros. nor Jason Momoa himself has confirmed that he is playing Aquaman in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Jason Momoa has NOT been officially announced as Aquaman.

Now, is Jason Momoa playing Aquaman? It’s quite likely that he is. Several Hollywood news sites have staked their reputations and cited reliable sources that he has been cast as Aquaman. Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder recently called into a Detroit radio station and defended Aquaman, while being careful not to officially confirm that Aquaman was in his movie. Warner Bros. has even reportedly hired two different scriptwriters to write two versions of an Aquaman movie.

Even Jason Momoa himself has gone from cussing at reporters or offering to let them hit him in the face when asked about Aquaman to being more coy about whether he has the role or not. However, in despite of all the evidence that Jason Momoa is playing Aquaman, it has not been officially announced.

Why hasn’t Warner Bros. announced it? Maybe, they are saving it as a badly kept surprise for the movie itself. Or more than likely, they are getting all their ducks in a row and plan to announce it at the same time they officially announce an Aquaman movie.
