Earlier today J.K. Rowling announced that there will be a total of five films in the new Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them franchise, a spin-off set years before Harry Potter ever dreamed of Hogwarts.
With the recent news that The Cursed Child, a British play based on grown-up Harry Potter and friends, will probably not be getting a big screen adaptation, fans were a bit bummed out. However, reactions to the popular play’s storyline were rather divisive because the main characters had changed too much and J.K Rowling didn’t technically write the script – Jack Thorne did.
Naturally, as soon as the new Fantastic Beasts franchise was announced we had a question – Will J.K. Rowling be writing the movies? See her answer below.
I’m the screenwriter. Currently putting the finishing touches to the second one. https://t.co/smffkQ42GZ

Fantastic Beasts was already set to receive two additional sequels, which are scheduled for November 16, 2018 and November 20, 2020. With Harry Potter alum David Yates directing and creator J.K. Rowling writing the scripts, we’ve got a recipe for pure magic.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an all-new adventure returning us to the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling. Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) stars in the central role of wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four Harry Potter blockbusters. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them hits theaters on November 18.
