Andy and Lana Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending will not make its July 2014 release date and will instead bow in theaters on February 6, 2015, Warner Bros. announced yesterday.

The film is the latest in a line of summer tentpoles including World War Z and Man of Steel that have had to back off release dates that were set before production even really started. Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man is widely expected to have to move its release date in the wake of director Edgar Wright leaving and at least two high-profile candidates to take over the reins passing on the film.

Unsurprisingly, Variety reports that extensive post-production work is the cause for the Jupiter Ascending delay.

Since completion of the Matrix trilogy, the Wachowskis have worked in an increasingly niche corner of Warner Bros., developing beautifully-made but expensive and not always profitable films like Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas.
