A quick look at an old Jurassic Park movie adaptation video game provides a map of Isla Nublar that doesn’t account for any water attractions…so it isn’t just that this is here because the island is now operational; it may also be a recent upgrade to the park.
One assume that, even though it doesn’t look like it, this must be an inland attraction, or that they must have some other means of keeping the creature docile and nearby so that it doesn’t just wander off into the surrounding waters and start eating things.
It actually looks pretty full in those stands, which might throw some shade on claims that the conflict in this movie is all about dwindling attendance.
There are also a number of hand-held cameras, many more than we see mobile phones or tablets, where the audience is taking photos. So…maybe this is a flashback, and that explains how full the stands are?
They’re also not dinosaurs, but who are we to be picky? The thing looks cool and it ate a shark.
That’s followed by some shots of Chris Pratt’s character training Raptors — “eyes on me!”
Jurassic ParkWe also get a look at Irrfan Khan’s character, and a number of teases of the Indominus Rex, although never one really clear shot.
You can check the former out above, and the latter below. (And, yeah, minor spoiler warnings for the red shirt who dies.)
We see that at least some of the dinos aren’t entirely digital, as that’s pretty obviously a practical prop they’re looking after that the I-Rex has apparently killed “for sport.”
With the scientists tending to the poor, dying beast it also seems to echo the “sick” triceratops from the first film.
The stakes, meanwhile, are incredibly high this time: instead of a dozen or so people stuck on the island, it’s 20,000…and the I-Rex is quickly not the only menace they have.
And then, finally, yes, we get our homage to the classic T-rex-at-the-SUV scene…
