Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will soon return to ABC for its third season, and if the past two seasons are precedent it will be a wild ride with lots of twists and turns.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a show where it really feels like almost anything could happen, so we thought we’d take a minute to consider what might transpire this season. Some of these may seem unlikely, but it wouldn’t be the first time the unlikely has happened with Marvel.

Inhuman Registration

It’s hard not to look at Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 without considering it in the shadow of the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. While the film will have its own inciting incident, perhaps the push for registration will begin with the Inhumans. With new Inhumans popping up all over the world, it is likely impossible to keep their existence under wraps anymore. A call for registration in the name of public safety isn’t too much of a stretch.
Civil War Leads To Most Wanted

Keeping with the Civil War theme, we all expect this season to tie into the film to the same way previous seasons tied into The Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron. We also know that a new series is in the works that will feature Mockingbird and Lance Hunter. The show’s title is Marvel’s Most Wanted, so you have to wonder if maybe Bobbi and Lance side with Cap and find themselves on the wrong side of the law when it’s all over.
The Inhuman Royal Family
We’ve already been introduced to the Inhumans on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but the group’s most popular members have yet to make an appearance. In Season 2, Jiaying mentioned Inuhman “elders” of some sort. Perhaps those elders are the Royal Family, and maybe we’ll get at least a mention of Black Bolt, Medusa, Crystal, or one of the others members.
Return of Leviathan
We saw Agent Carter deal with Leviathan in that show’s first season, but with this season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. being inspired by Secret Warriors, it’s possible they’ll make an appearance. IN Secret Warriors, Leviathan was frozen in time and mutated into monstrous humanoids. Perhaps the same happens in the MCU.
Ward Becomes Taskmaster

We’ve theorized before that Grant Ward could be the MCU equivalent of Taskmaster, so perhaps that theory will become reality in Season 3. His rise in the ranks of Hydra doesn’t line up with Taskmaster’s history, but we know the MCU takes liberties at times, so we don’t think it’s out of the question.
