It’s been a busy day for Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man. First, an international trailer hit the Web that showcased Peter Parker’s charterization and the math/science genius that will allow him to build webshooters and probably be a target for The Lizard–now, the studio has released a second theatrical poster for the anticipated reboot. Those aforementioned webshooters are pretty prominently featured in the new image, a change of pace from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films, which originated the idea that the character shouldn’t need them and that the power should be organic to his body. It gained some traction and was integrated into the comics, but was widely disliked and eventually was included among the story elements removed from the character’s history during the controversial One More Day/Brand New Day reboot. It also features, in the background, what appears to be the same building under construction and crane that has been seen in one of the film’s trailers. ComicBook.com has speculated in the past that the crane would play a major plot role in the film, and its presence on the poster might suggest that’s the case. The poster debuted at Addicto Movie and has since been republished by Comic Book Resources, and features an image of Spider-Man virtually identical to one posted to the movie’s Facebook page last night. It was on the Facebook page that it was first announced there would be a new poster this weekend. It hasn’t yet been uploaded to the Facebook page and the absence of any studio indicia or credits outside of Marvel Studios makes the poster’s provenance seem somewhat suspect. It’s likely legitimate, but if it isn’t, we’ll bring you the next one as soon as it surfaces.
