Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a true mash-up, mixing Victorian love affairs with flesh eating members of the undead. The film will follow the book’s main plot regarding Lizzy and Mr. Darcy’s courtship, and the horror twist of the “sorry stricken”โthat universe’s term for zombies (The “Walkers” in The Walking Dead).
While such a genre-bender might call for camp and comedy, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is deliberately avoiding all self-awareness. As Director Burr Steers told EW, “The idea was that it was Pride and Prejudice set in this alternate world and then for everyone to play it straight. The movie’s big wink is that there is no big wink.”
