Fresh off his work on CHiPs with Michael Peña, Dax will be bringing the sleuthing series back to life over at Warner Bros. Animation. Shepard and Cervone will be joined by scriptwriter Matt Lieberman. Producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle have also signed onto the project with Allison Abbate. Dan Povenmire will act as executive producer.
The upcoming Scooby Doo flick is slated to released on September 21 2018. And, so far, the time of the film’s release has fans wondering whether Shepard is working on S.C.O.O.B.
If you’re unfamiliar with the title, the film stands to be the first in an entire cinematic universe centered around Scooby Doo. Warner Bros. announced their plans to kickstart a new series about the gang of detective teenagers that would draw in younger, millennial audiences. After all, the original animated television series from Hanna-Barbera did come out back in the 90s. While nostalgic fans would love to revisit the series, there’s an entirely new generation of viewers just waiting to learn who Fred, Velma, and Shaggy are.
Speaking about S.C.O.O.B., a Warner Bros. representative said the film is the studio’s “first shot at unlocking the whole Hanna-Barbera Universe.”
There have also been whispers going around that a live-action reboot of the franchise could be in the works. Of course, Scooby Doo was adapted into a full-length film which starred Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini and Isla Fisher as the gang. The film did well enough to prompt Warner Bros. into making a sequel titled Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
Shepard’s mysterious Scooby Doo animated movie is slated to release on September 21 2018.
