The new Pokemon Go update has caused headaches for several reasons, but many iOS users have reported that the new update erased their Pokemon Go account, forcing them to start over from scratch. The issue seems to only affect Apple users who used their Google accounts to log in, but the idea that any Pokemon Go user could lose their progress is enough to cause plenty of players to delay updating the game.

While mum about other recent issues, Niantic did release a statement clarifying that no accounts were erased with the new update. However, the update did require iOS players to re-login using their Google account and some players may have logged in with a different account than the one linked to their game.

If you logged into a different Google account in Pokemon Go, you’ll either need to uninstall and reinstall the app or log out of the game (which can be found in Settings menu) to reset the process. When attempting to log in a second time, the game will direct you to a Google log in page in Safari. Be sure to double check which account you’re logging into by checking the upper right hand corner of the Google login page before signing in. If it’s the wrong account, you’ll need to sign out of Google on Safari and then log back in with the correct account.
