Cooke will be playing Art3mis (avatar of Samantha Evelyn Cook), a world famous gunter (someone(s) that searches for Halliday’s Easter Eggs), who is known for her intelligence, independence, and boldness. But Art3mis/Sam is also known for being attractively plump, which neither Cooke nor her competition (Elle Fanning, Lola Kirke) are/were. Oh, Hollywood.
Cooke is best known for starring in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which was the winner of the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The 21-year-old actress has also appeared on on A&E’s Bates Motel.
Ready Player One, based on the 2011 novel by Ernest Cline, follows a teenager who hunts for treasures hidden in virtual reality, Oasis, that is left behind by Oasis’ deceased creator. But as the teenager begins cracking the reality’s trippy puzzles and clues, he finds that other, more malicious hunters are also on the treasure’s trail, and will kill anyone who stands in their way.
