Parker “Queen of the Indies” Posey, who is best known to mainstream audiences for her memorable supporting roles in 1993’s Dazed and Confused and 2006’s Superman Returns, will play a gender-bent version of Dr. Smith in Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot.

Jonathan Harris portrayed the selfish, lazy, and sometimes-wicked Dr. Zachary Smith in the original 1965 television series. To prevent the Robinsons from successfully carrying out their mission to colonize a planet orbiting the nearest star, Alpha Centauri, Dr. Smith โ a surgeon, a psychologist, and a secret-agent โ sabotaged the Jupiter 2 spacecraft, causing it to become lost in… (Now, where was it again? Oh, yeah.) Space! Unintentionally, Smith became trapped aboard the ship.
Gary Oldman (Batman Begins) portrayed the character in the forgettable 1998 film.
Posey joins a cast that already features Molly Parker (House of Cards) as Maureen Robinson, Toby Stephens (Black Sails) as John Robinson, Maxwell Jenkins (Sense8) as Will Robinson, and Taylor Russell (Falling Skies) as Judy Robinson.
Taking its cues from the original series, the show centers around the Robinson family, who is forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons. Equal parts family drama and sci-fi adventure, it is a survival story for the ages.
Zack Estrin (Prison Break) serves as executive producer alongside writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Last Witch Hunter); Synthesis Entertainment’s Kevin Burns (The Curse of Oak Island, Ancient Aliens) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Pacific Rim); and Applebox’s Emmyยฎ-nominated director Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones, The Descent) and Marc Helwig. Marshall is also set to direct several episodes of the series. Lost in Space is a Legendary TV production for Netflix.
10-episode first season of the one-hour sci-fi drama, from Legendary TV, will premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2018.
