Born in November 1922, Schulz was born in Minnesota to parents Carl and Dana. From a young age, the cartoonist loved to draw, but his work was often rejected by his peers at school. In the 1940s, Schulz was forced to give up his artistic dreams when he was drafted into the military. By 1946, he had returned home from war and rekindled his love for cartoons.

Of course, most people will know Schulz for creating Peanuts. The insanely popular comic strip was published in +2,600 newspapers at its height, and Shulz drew more than 18,000 strips alone. The comic introduced the world to characters like Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and more.

Today, the comic industry looks back fondly on Schulz for his creative genius and unending work ethic. Many contemporary artists have cited Schulz as one of their inspirations, and his creations continue to live on in pop culture still.

Happy birthday, Charles. Rest in peace.
