Oswald, Meet Your Father
Oswald Cobblepot metย Elijah Vanย Dahlย on tonight’s episode (played by Paul Reubens, of course). The pair hit it off famously, with Van Dahlย welcoming Oswald in with open arms, bringing him into his home and making him part of his family. How this will all play out with our currently brainwashed (or is he?) Oswald Cobblepotย remains to be seen.
The Riddler is Fully Born
Well, well, well. After a year and a half of teases, cheesy riddles, and some sparks of dark brilliance, we got our first full Riddler-style crime. With a stolen painting and two others defaced, Edward Nygmaย used one crime to set up another crime. As it turned out,ย that crime was also setup for another – and for framing Detective Gordon. Yeah, this guy is the smartest guy in the room, and one of the most terrifying, as well, with his easy access as the forensic scientist of the GCPD, Nygmaย might be the biggest threat the city has seen.

Well, this has to be the most “Batman” moment we’ve seen out of our young Bruce Wayne yet. While this season has shown a few of them, including him manipulating Silver and refusing to kill the man who killed his parents, Bruce’s fight – and the feeling he described after it – really saw the shadow of the Bat coming down.
“It was like nothing else existed. The emptiness andย confusionโฆย it just vanished. For the first time in a long time I knew I was going to be okay,” he told Selina as she literally stitched him up.
Yeah, Bruce. That’s dark, man.
Jim Gordon: Convict
Jim Gordon was framed! I mean, sure, Jimย did murder someone this season, but not the guy he was accused of murdering inย this case. Thanks to the aforementioned machinations of Edward Nygma, the evidence in an officer’s murder was stacked against Jimbo, and he was taken into custody. While some people still believe in him, like Lee and Harvey, things are not looking good for the “hero” ofย Gotham right now, especially with the infamous Blackgate Penitentiary in his immediate future.
Time Jump!
Four weeks go by in an instant, foregoing Jim’s trial and Bruce’s recovery period in one fell swoop. That means Lee is a month closer to having her baby, and Jim has officially been found guilty of his “crime,” though we all know he’s been convicted of the wrong murder. A much more worn Bruce, who has now lived on the streets for a month, is determined to do something about it, and Oswald has a family life – though his Step-mother and Step-sister don’t seem too sure about him.
Whether those four weeks will ever be addressed, or we’ll just move forward at this faster pace now is yet to be seen.
Gotham: The Stabby Babs Awakens
The final scene of the episode saw, after hearing of Jim’s incarceration on the radio, Barbara Keanย awaken from her coma. Exactly what that will mean for the citizens of Gotham, including Gordon, is hard to tell. Earlier this year, actress Erin Richards told ComicBook.comย that Barbara “comes back totally different” when she wakes up, though she did caution, “It’s ambiguous as to whether she is actually changed, or whether she’s not changed [and pretending].”
Of course, she now also has Professor Hugo Strange to deal with, who was summoned immediately after she woke up. Hopefully that doesn’t mean Babs is getting the same “treatment” our pal Oswald got.ย
