During an interview with Access Hollywood to support his forthcoming film The Choice, former Smallville star Tom Welling — the longest-running Clark Kent in live action — once again said that while fans and the press are always asking about the idea of him coming to Supergirl, he simply hasn’t been asked by the showrunners.

This time he went a little bit more in-depth than he has in the past, praising Supergirl and speculating about whether he might still be able to fill out the Superman “tights.”
…Which, most fans will remember, was not something Welling did very much, or reportedly was eager to do, even for Smallville.
“I’ve gotten a lot of questions about that and the funny thing is, I’ve never been asked. They’ve never asked me, so we’ll see. It’s a great show. I’ve seen it.”
Asked whether he could get into a set of tights, Welling responded, “I might need a little notice.”
The series, which centers on Superman’s cousin, has featured brief, blurry cameo appearances by the Man of Steel, but showrunners have been reluctant to say one way or another whether they might eventually cast a Superman for themselves. Given that former Superman Dean Cain plays the adoptive father of Supergirl and former Supergirl Helen Slater is her adoptive mother, the idea of casting another former Superman in the role of Superman doesn’t seem entirely crazy.
Last year, there were persistent rumors that Welling would appear on The Flash as Superman, but it never happened. Early reports indicated that Mark Pedowitz, the head of The CW, had teased the appearance during a meeting with the press, but neither The CW nor any local press ever had a credible record of such a meeting.
Supergirl airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
