Fans around the world recognize the face of Kim Coates, as the veteran actor has appeared in an enormous amount of projects over the years. From Resident Evil to Sons Of Anarchy, the actor has popped up all over the place.

One genre where Coates hasn’t spent much time however, is in the family-friendly picture. He’s accustomed to the gritty TV dramas and horror flicks, but the guy hasn’t had much of a chance to dive into projects aimed at kids.

That changed this year, as Coates took a supporting – yet crucial – role in the new movie, Adventure Club.

The film revolves around three young kids who discover an ancient secret, and must work together to save the most important part of their hometown.

Coates takes on the role of Uncle Ozzie, a hilarious owner of an antique shop, who does what he can to help the Adventure Club in all areas of life. Whether it be bullies or wish-granting devices, Ozzie is always there.

This role is vastly different from the others that Coates has taken in his life, but he revealed that he loved making that transition. When speaking with ComicBook.com about the film, Coates praised the concept of family films, and wished there were more of those opportunities in Hollywood.

“It was a joy, man. When you’re an actor like me, you want to change it up all the time. That’s why I am the actor I think I am. I love gaining weight, losing weight, accents…. How does he walk? How does he think? What does he look like? I got to get into this guy and have so much fun.” Coates continued, “There’s not a lot of family movies being shot these days really. Certainly not being offered to me. When they are, I jump at it, and I did.”

The actor also said that he likes transitioning from one kind of character to another, and that playing this lovable character was such a welcomed change.

“For me to be offered this guy which was so different from Tig Trager, it was exactly what I was looking for and am looking for and it was a real treat.”

If you’re not familiar, Tig Trager was Coates’ character on Sons Of Anarchy.

Adventure Club was released in select theaters this past weekend, and it’s now available to rent or own on Digital HD platforms.
