Debuting on Star Wars’ official website, the John Tyler Christopher-illustrated cover features the return of Jaxxon, a cult-favorite smuggler from the Star Wars universe. Jan made his debut in the first original Star Wars comic series, following Marvel’s adaptations of the original trilogy. In fact, he was one of the first additions to Star Wars lore following the films.

Based the cover image, it looks like Jaxxon wasn’t invited to the upcoming Star Wars party that Marvel is throwing next year with several new Star Wars titles. In fact, the variant itself will be “Party” variant, available only to comic shop retailers who opt-in to Marvel’sย “Star Wars #1 Launch Party” by ordering a specific number of “Star Wars #1” copies.
“Star Wars has always been an important part of Marvel’s history and we knew we wanted to honor that legacy with a callback to the original Marvel Comics Star Wars series,” Marvel SVP of Sales & Marketing David Gabriel told Starwars.com. “We think old and new fans alike will be just as excited as we are to see Jaxxon, even if it’s only for this fun variant cover.”
Star Wars #1, by Jason Aaron and John Cassaday, hits comic shops in January 2015.
